About The Campout

Since 1991 many of the homebrew clubs of Minnesota have gotten together each summer for a campout somewhere in the state to share good beer and good times.

The 16th Annual campout will be held June 28 - July 1, 2007 (Thursday through Sunday) at Finsted's Oak Haven Campground on the north edge of New Ulm.

About the Campground

Finsted's Oak Haven Campground sits atop a hill 1/4 mile north of the intersection of US-14 and MN-15 on the north edge of New Ulm.

There are plenty of campsites for everyone--there are asphalt pads with electric hookup (no water) for campers and RVs, and there are grassy sites near trees for tent campers. Cost for camping is $18 per site per night.

The onsite facilities include both an open shelter house with picnic tables near a fire pit, as well as an air-conditioned building with showers, flush toilets, a full kitchen and dining hall for 100. Near the structures is a small playground (teeter-totters and a large swingset) and a large grassy area perfect for volleyball or croquet. Surrounding everything is a network of gravel and asphalt drives suitable for kids on bikes.

Hermann wants YOU to come to the campout!

Homebrew Competition

Each homebrew club is allowed one entry (two 12-oz. bottles) per category.  The categories are:  Open Ale, Open Lager, Open Belgian, Open Mead, Open Cask.  The winners of each category then advance to the Best of Show, with the winning brewer declared the Master (or Mistress) of the Malts.  The 2006 MoM was Al Boyce of the MHBA, who is organizing the hombrewing competition for 2007.  If you have questions about the homebrewing competition, please contact him at the e-address below.

Other Events Planned for the Homebrew Campout

We are fortunate to have Dave Berg leading a very special all-access tour of Schell's Brewery in New Ulm on Saturday morning at 9:00 am. Our homebrew competition judging will follow, around 10:00 am in Schell's old tap room.

An optional side trip Friday evening is being planned to Morgan Creek Vineyards & Winery (8 miles outside New Ulm).

Brewmasters from Schell's, Great Waters (St. Paul), Backwater (Winona) and others will be invited to join us at the campout and to bring along any samples of specialty beers to share around the campfire.

If you have any questions concerning these events, please contact event trip organizer Wayne Theuer at the e-address below.
