FIRST TIMER?

About the Campout Scheduled Events NEW THIS YEAR Cook-Off Cook-Off Recipes! New Ulm Links Photos FIRST TIMER? 2007 Campout Highlights & Photos!

What to expect if you're a First Timer....

First and foremost, it is a campout--there will be everything from 47-foot RVs to pup tents, and a few people may choose to sleep at hotels in New Ulm.

Be sure to bring whatever cooking/eating gear you need -- plates, utensils, beverage glasses, pots & pans, etc. At the campground there are two firepits, as well as a standard stove/oven in the air-conditioned building which houses the kitchen/dining facilities and the showers and flush toilets. Camp stoves or propane burners are also welcome. Don't forget potholders and long-handled cooking utensils--the fire gets HOT!

Most meals are on your own, and can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. You are not expected to share (i.e. this is not a "potluck"), although communal snacks such as chips, carrots or cookies are always appreciated!

Saturday evening there will be a large group dinner -- the pork entrees will be prepared by the four teams participating in the Cook-Off competition, and the side dishes will be provided by the host Timberworts club. (Disposable plates, utensils, cups and napkins will be available.)

Sunday morning is generally a communal breakfast, mostly cooked over the firepit, with everyone contributing. Bacon, sausages, eggs, cinnamon rolls, biscuits, donuts, fresh tomatoes....pretty much anything you want. If you want to eat, please contribute something.

It's a homebrew campout -- don't forget to bring your beers!!  If you don't have any homebrews to share, growlers (64-oz glass jugs), kegs or bottles from your favorite brewpub or microbrewery are always acceptable.

Timeframe

A few hardcores will arrive at the campground midday on Thursday.  The majority of campers will arrive Friday afternoon.  Some people may just drive out for Saturday afternoon and evening.  Pretty much everyone departs by noon on Sunday.  You are welcome to come for as long or as little as you want.

There are a number of excursions planned.  Participation is entirely optional.  Some people just want to hang out at the campground and chill.  Others may wish to leave for a few hours midday and go check out downtown New Ulm.  It is entirely up to you.
